OUR MISSION

The Kings River Fisheries Management Program is dedicated to improving and enhancing the lower Kings River watershed and fishery habitat while maintaining its beneficial uses, recognizing that a healthy river is essential to the region’s well-being and future quality of life.

Cooperative Management

The Kings River Conservation District, Kings River Water Association and CA Department of Fish and Wildlife routinely work together on behalf of the tail-water fishery

Habitat Enhancement

Enhancing rainbow trout habitat via riparian planting, channel ripping, placement of velocity refugia, enhancing spawning gravel and other projects

Scientific Study

Telemetry, mark recapture, return to creel, genetics and annual population surveys are among the studies conducted by the program

Public Outreach and Education

The program provides educational tours to the public, funds for fishing regulation signs and works closely with area educational institutions

Monitoring

The program regularly monitors water quality, temperatures, flows and fish populations in the Lower Kings

Supplemental Stocking

The KRFMP Incubator Facility releases around 300,000 rainbow trout fry per year with the hope that some will grow up wild. The CDFW also provides supplemental stocking many months of the year.
