Rainbow Trout Fry Release 2025 is Complete

We are excited to announce the successful release of approximately ~155,000 rainbow trout fry into the Kings River this year! Thanks to the hard work of our staff and the dedication of public volunteers. Two major releases were completed between February 20 and April 10 — between Pine Flat Dam and Highway 180.

The trout fry, each about one inch long at the time of release, now have the opportunity to grow up as wild trout in the Kings River where they learn critical survival skills such as predator avoidance, foraging for natural feed, and navigating the river on their own.

The Kings River Fisheries Management Program is grateful for the incredible support from the community. We extend a big thank you to the public volunteers and college students who assisted not only during the releases but also with daily care of the fry in the weeks leading up to their release. Your involvement helps ensure a thriving trout population and healthy river habitat.

The Kings River Fisheries Management Program is a cooperative effort between the Kings River Conservation District, Kings River Water Association, and California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
