The Kings River Needs Your Help

Kings River Cleanup is a collaborative, volunteer-driven effort to protect the Kings River by removing trash and debris from riverbanks, waterways, and surrounding areas. Through monthly cleanup events, community members and partner organizations work side by side to care for one of the Central Valley’s most important natural resources.

Kings River Cleanup brings together staff and volunteers from multiple local, state, and federal partners to address the ongoing issue of trash and litter along the Kings River.

This effort wouldn’t be possible without collaboration, support, and partnerships between six partner organizations. Together, we coordinate volunteer events, provide equipment and supplies, and ensure that cleanup efforts align with long-term river management goals.

This group of amazing Kings River Cleanup volunteers removed 494 pounds of trash including 21 tires in the area near Cobbles Weir on December 11, 2025!

Who Can Participate?

Kings River Cleanup events are open to pretty much anyone:

Volunteers should be comfortable working outdoors and walking on uneven terrain. Additional details and any age requirements will be shared when you sign up for an event.

Trash left along the Kings River doesn’t just negatively affect how the area looks—it can create lasting damage on the river and the communities that depend on it.

River cleanups help:

  • Protect fish and wildlife from entanglement and ingestion of trash
  • Improve water quality by removing pollutants before they spread downstream
  • Preserve public access for recreation like fishing, boating, and hiking
  • Reduce the amount of debris carried downstream during high water flows
  • Foster stewardship and community pride in the Kings River

Despite regular cleanups, trash continues to accumulate along the river. More education & volunteers are essential to keeping up with the demand.
