Coves and jetties along the river shoreline have been excavated and created to provide shelter to juvenile trout at different flow levels and to help restore natural conditions downstream from Pine Flat Dam. The structures were sized and shaped to provide the maximum benefit under the broadest range of river flows to provide the shallow, calm water habitats required by juvenile trout, and refuge cover where adult trout can escape from high flood and irrigation flows. Coves and jetties have been excavated utilizing heavy equipment to create a more persistent rearing habitat area.
